Corporate Events Manager

+ Position Overview

The Corporate Events Manager plays an essential role in building and maintaining MxDís brand and reputation through its events portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing and organizing events in a way that will have an impact for MxD, its partners, and its prospective partners. The Corporate Events Manager ensures all events are successful and cost-effective, paying attention to fees, budget, and other constraints. The Corporate Events Manager understands marketing and promotion techniques and provides creative ideas to continually improve the experience for visitors and partners.

A successful Corporate Events Manager has the organizational skills required to ensure each event runs flawlessly. Two associates report to this position with the potential for additional support from interns.

+ Key Responsibilities

  • Project manage, plan, and oversee all elements of internal events from start to finish according to requirements, partner needs, and organization objectives
  • Prepare departmental budgets and ensure adherence; drive cost savings and efficiencies for MxD-led and partner events
  • Perform purchasing functions related to meetings, events, and other promotional needs
  • Design and implement updated pricing model for consistency and rigor in third-party event pricing
  • Lead ongoing data collection on comparable event spaces to ensure appropriate and competitive pricing
  • Manage event contracting process in collaboration with legal and contracting staff
  • Oversee use of event management and visitor registration systems across team, security personnel, and guests, troubleshooting when necessary
  • Work collaboratively with leadership and across teams to leverage events to meet marketing and strategic goals in addition to revenue targets
  • Expand relationships and negotiate with vendors to provide best service for partners, prospective partners, and the organization
  • Consistently and creatively promote event space to drive additional bookings
  • Supervise events team and contractors (e.g., event coordinators, caterers) and train new staff and interns
  • Analyze each eventís execution and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Maintain awareness of organizational events taking place inside and outside the MxD Innovation Center (e.g., external speaking engagements) to leverage marketing and partnership opportunities
  • Stay updated on event industry trends and best practices
  • Regularly provide updates and occasionally training to leadership and entire organization

+ Position Requirements

  • Bachelorís degree
  • 6-10 years of experience in event planning, hospitality, and marketing or some combination
  • Advanced experience and know-how related to the meetings, events, and/or hospitality industry
  • Strong budget, forecasting, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service
  • Ability to confidently represent organization with external organizations and partners, up to and including C-Suite individuals
  • Experience evaluating vendors, negotiating contracts, and managing ongoing relationships
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter and comfort working in both complex and ambiguous situations
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly, while maintaining organization and control
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours to execute early morning and evening events as needed
  • Ability to execute physical tasks such as moving tables and chairs and to stand for prolonged periods during event execution
  • Ability to stand on feet for several hours at a time, and lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Project management/meeting planning credentials preferred such as Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification
